Jim Betts served as Artistic Director of Smile Theatre in Toronto from 2008 to 2017. Although he is no longer working for Smile full-time, he is still doing occasional writing, directing and consulting for the company.

Jim has adapted many Canadian Musicals, and other classics, for Smile audiences – including Anne Of Green Gables, A Christmas Carol and (!) Romeo And Juliet – and has written a number of original one-act musicals for Smile through the years, including ExtraordinarySunshine Sketches, A Joyful Noise and this year’s Granny Penny’s Great Adventure.

Smile Theatre is unique in Canada, touring professional musical theatre 10 months of the year to “audiences who can no longer get out to the theatre”. Their audience is primarily Seniors, and their venues include Long-Term Care Centres, Assisted Living Centres, Seniors’ Residences, and Rehabilitation Centres.
